I was born and raised in the Hudson River Valley. My father's family's roots go back to Peekskill, NY in the 1920s. I've always had a deep and abiding affection for the River and the beautiful Hudson Highlands.
I earned my BA and Bachelor of Hebrew Literature degrees from the Joint Program (Jewish Theological Seminary and Columbia Univeristy). After college, I attended graduate school in California (MA-UCLA and ABD-UC Berkeley) and have lived on the west coast most of my subsequent life. I studied Hebrew Literature at the Hebrew University for one undergraduate and one graduate school year.
I have been interested in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since I was a teenager in 1967 and have worked all my adult life to promote dialogue and mutual recognition.
In July, 2006 I founded a peace blog aggregator, Israel Palestine Blogs, featuring 35 progressive blogs by Israelis, Palestinians, Lebanese, and Diaspora Arabs and Jews which focus on the Israeli-Arab conflict.
He lived in Ireland for a year, where he taught in a Dublin Jewish day school and knew the chief rabbi at the time, David Rosen.
