Formerly secretary general of the Israeli popular movement Peace_Now, Gaby Lasky is an Israeli human rights attorney working as legal adviser to the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel, a non-political organization dedicated to the elimination of torture as a means of interrogation by Israel’s security forces. She represents a number of women conscientious objectors refusing to serve in the Israeli army as long as the occupation continues; in March 2004, she brought one such case to the Israeli Supreme Court. A former lieutenant in the Israeli Defense Forces, she documents and responds to cases of torture, ill treatment, and police brutality within Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank. Ms. Lasky ran for a seat in the Knesset in the 2003 national elections under the Meretz Party.
