|Michel Warschawski speaking at the European Social Forum in London, October 2004|
Michel Warschawski (1949-), also known as Michael or Mikado, is a former general director of the Alternative Information Center in Jerusalem.
Born into a religious family in Strasbourg (where his father, Meir (Max) Shimon Warschawski, was rabbi), Warschawski left for Israel at the age of sixteen to study at Merkaz HaRav. Slowly at first, he began to perceive the racism of the Israeli state, going on, eventually, to become one of the best known figures on the radical Israeli Left. In the late 1980s, he was condemned to twenty months in prison for involvement with illegal Palestinian organisations.
His secon wife is the human rights lawyer, Lea Tsemel
Despite his views, you did reserve duty in the Israeli army until he was 52.
