Ze'ev Schiff was the military affairs editor for Ha'aretz. He died in June 2007 at the age of 74.
Judge for yourself what it means that, on 9 April 2003, he was awarded the Chaim Herzog Prize "for unique contribution to Israel". President Moshe Katsav awarded the prize to Schiff. U.S. Ambassador Dan Kurtzer and members of Israel's defense establishment also attended the ceremony. The members of the prize committee noted that Schiff is "the epitome of the professional, trustworthy and critical journalist, one of the stalwarts of Israeli journalism whose analyses of military and security events is thorough and scholarly. His professional standards, analytical powers and integrity have won him recognition both in Israel and abroad." (see here)
