M. Shahid Alam
is a Professor of Economics at Northeastern University, Boston.
Professor Alam holds a BA from the University of Dhaka, MA from the University of Karachi, and Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario.

He is author of Poverty from the Wealth of Nations (2000) and Governments and Markets in Economic Development Strategies (1989), and Community Organizations and Urban Development: A Study of Selected Urban Settlements in Karachi (1996). His economic articles have appeared in American Economic Review, Cambridge Journal of Economics, Kyklos, Journal of Development Economics, Science and Society and Review of Radical Political Economics. His political essays have appeared in CounterPunch (USA), Islamicity (USA), Dawn (Pakistan), Al-Ahram (Egypt), Holiday (Bangladesh), Outlook (India), The Blanket (Ireland) and Scoop (New Zealand). His poetry has appeared in Chicago Review, West Coast Review, Marlboro Review and The Beloit Poetry Journal.
