Dr. Kobi Snitz (PhD, University of Maryland, 2003) is a member of Anarchists Against the Wall (AATW) in Israel and a post-doc researcher in the Department of Mathematics at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Be'er Sheva
His political involvement started when he joined CUPE local 3902 as a teaching assistant in Toronto. He continued being active as a graduate student in the United States, working on teaching assistant union drives, and to oppose U.S. aggression. His work with AATW started when he returned to his native Israel in 2003.
On 21 September 2009, Snitz began a 20-day prison term in Abu Kabir Prison, resulting from an arrest in 2004 for trying to prevent a home demolition in the Palestinian village of Kharbatha, in the Ramallah District. In 2007 he was convicted of disturbing a police officer while doing his job and was sentenced to three months of Parole and a fine of 2000 NIS. Kobi refused to pay the fine and it was converted to 20 days of detention, starting from today. He is believed to be the first Israeli activist to serve time for a demonstration in the Occupied Territories.
