John Gutch

Sir John Gutch (1905-1988), knighted in 1957, was appointed to the Colonial Administrative Service in 1928 as Assistant District Commissioner, Gold Coast, and promoted to be Assistant Colonial Secretary in 1934. He was transferred to Palestine in 1936. In 1947, by which time he was a Principal Secretary in Palestine, he was seconded for service in the Colonial Office and in 1948 to the Foreign Office for service in Cyrenaica. In 1950, he was appointed Colonial Secretary in British Guiana. In 1955-1961, he was High Commissioners for the Western Pacific, including the Solomon Islands.
