Robert O’Donnell Nicolai

Robert O'Donnell Nicolai, 25-years-old at the time of the Ben Hecht voyage, had served in the US 101st Airborne Division during the Second World War. After the war he took back his job at a forging plant, got restless, and went to New York to volunteer as a seaman aboard the Ben Hecht.
