Demonstrations against Baghdad pact cause resignation of Jordanian prime minister

On December 19, 1955, Prime Minister Hazza Majali, who had only formed a government on December 15 1955, resigned after two days of demonstrations against the country’s proposed membership in the Baghdad Pact. King Hussein dissolved the parliament on December 19, 1955. Some 41 individuals were killed during the demonstrations.
